BMW 2012 – Americain Draws Outside

Race-favourite Americain has drawn the outside barrier (10) for the 2012 BMW which will run as a feature race on the all-Group card at Rosehill this Saturday.

Currently $1.90 favourite at, the seven-year-old former Melbourne Cup champion’s job has increased in difficulty after Australian Cup winner Manighar drew the plum barrier six position.

Americain has drawn the outside barrier for Saturday's prestigious Group 1 BMW

Americain ran third to Manighar in the Australian Cup but finished strongly and has been primed for Saturday’s 2400 metre race which is worth $2.25 million.

It will be the star import’s first ever race in Sydney and his jockey Gerald Mosse will also be competing in the harbour city for the first time.

Mosse rode him for a light gallop at the Rosehill track this morning and was pleased with the long-time successful horse’s condition.

“When I ask him for something he just answers. The trainer asked me to give him an easy gallop for him to see and feel the track and to be comfortable,” Mosse said.

“He is coming back to his peak form, the track was a little bit dead and he showed it. He was happy with the track, but it is a different surface from Flemington. He is not used to running on such a surface.”

Australian Cup runner-up Southern Speed will start as third-favourite ($10.00) on Saturday and has drawn barrier two.

The Southern Image mare will be out to avenge her losses to Manighar in the Australian Cup and the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes where she finished fifth on March 24.

Manighar has been in sensational form, winning the Group 1 Australian Cup-Ranvet double and should be ready for the step up in distance, with leading trainer Peter Moody targeting the gelding for the BMW all year.

Legendary trainer Bart Cummings has one horse running in the race with Precedence, who will be looking to record his first victory since October 2010 after drawing barrier four.

The betting market for the 2012 BMW is now open so head to to back your winner.
