Americain Ready for Sydney Debut in 2012 BMW

Star import Americain is primed for the 2012 BMW (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday which will serve as the former Melbourne Cup winner’s first ever race in the harbour city.

The favourite ($1.90) to take out the prized event, Americain has been targeted for the Sydney feature and will appreciate the extra 400 metres after running third in the 2000 metre Australian Cup.

Americain is favourite to win the BMW in his Sydney debut

On that day Americain looked impressive down the straight and was gaining on the two front runners at the business end of the race.

Trained by David Hayes, the winner of more than $4.6 million in prize money underwent a healthy gallop at the famous Sydney track today with race-day jockey Gerald Mosse in the saddle.

It was the first time at the Sydney track for Mosse who has been reacquainted with Americain after last riding him in the Sandown Classic last November.

Mosse was pleased with the seven-year-old’s condition and is confident he will be at near peak form on Saturday.

“He is feeling great, looking great and his action is great,” Mosse said.

“When I ask him for something he just answers. The trainer asked me to give him an easy gallop for him to see and feel the track and to be comfortable.

“He is coming back to his peak form, the track was a little bit dead and he showed it. He was happy with the track, but it is a different surface from Flemington.”

The biggest challenger to the US star this weekend is French gelding Manighar who is chasing a third straight victory.

Trained by Peter Moody, the six-year-old finished ahead of Southern Speed and Americain to win the Australian Cup before backing up two weeks later to beat a high-class Ranvet Stakes field.

Moody has been targeting Manighar for the top-class stayer’s race all year so the quality import is likely to produce a quality effort when race five jumps at Rosehill this Saturday.
