Fibrillation Wins Again – 2012 Epona Stakes

Fibrillation has backed up her win in the Aspiration Quality at Randwick two weeks ago with victory in today’s Group 3 2012 Epona Stakes (1900m) at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens.

Rated a $14.00 outsider pre-race at, the four-year-old proved she is more than just a wet track runner by taking victory ahead of a strong 13-horse field in good conditions.

Brenton Avdulla rode her in the Aspiration Quality and he was again in the saddle today when she took top honours in the $125,000 race.

Avdulla said he was unsure heading into the race how the four-year-old would run on top of the ground after mostly proving successful in the wet.

“I wasn’t sure how she’d handle it today,” he said.

“[But] when she came in to the barriers today she was spot on.”

The daughter of Diatribe now has four wins from 16 starts and trainer Tim Martin was happy she had a chance to prove she could run on dry tracks.

“Well she has won on a good track here before,” Martin said.

“She is good on wet tracks but we’ve had seven months of rain.”

Martin said he would weigh up his options before deciding where to go next with Fibrillation who seems to be improving with every race.

Pre-race favourite Crafty Irna finished second while Gai Waterhouse-trained mare Once Were Wild came home in third.

It has been an excellent display of racing so far at Rosehill Gardens but there is plenty more action to come.

The day’s highlight is race seven with the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas and has the best market.
