The Group 3 2012 WA Oaks exists as one of the highlight races on this Saturday’s Ascot card and two in-form horses are tough to separate at the top end of the betting market.
Natasha Stakes winner Caiguna ($2.90) is just ahead of Pop Culture ($3.20) in the bookmaker.com.au market and both horses are coming into the race with good results behind them.
Caiguna was particularly impressive in the Natasha Stakes when beating Pop Culture by more than a length but the second favourite has a more consistent record three wins from eight starts.
Trained by Colin Webster, Pop Culture was the winner of the Ascot 1000 Guineas on March 3 in which Caiguna finished fourth.
That result came on the back of victory in the Perthracing.com.au handicap and a runner-up finish in the Budget Challenge Stakes on February 18.
Next best in the betting is the horse that finished second to Pop Culture in the Ascot 1000 Guineas, Elite Belle ($5.50).
Outside of the Ascot 1000 Guineas runner-up effort, the promising Grant Williams trained filly produced some excellent results at country tracks and also ran fourth in the Natasha Stakes.
Natasha Stakes third-place getter Shezapro provides value for the punters at $13.00 and prior to the Natasha Stakes beat 11 other horses to win the Program Connect Handicap at Pinjarra.
More Than Ready filly Dark Miss is paying $10.00 and the winner of one race from eight starts has experienced reasonable results in 2012 with mid-field finishes in all the WA Oaks lead up events.
Also included in the 2012 WA Oaks betting market are Opera Seria ($10.00), The Social Network ($14.00) and long-shot outsiders First Hit ($41.00) and Bag Of Stars ($81.00).
