She’s A Fox Tops 2012 Magic Night Stakes Odds

She may have had just one previous start having only debuted two weeks ago, but Anthony Cummings’ spruik two-year-old filly She’s A Fox has opened the pronounced favourite to win the Magic Night Stakes 2012 at Rosehill Guineas Day this Saturday.

Anthony Cummings prepares Saturday's 2012 Magic Night Stakes favourite She's A Fox

One of 14 young fillies engaged in the meeting’s opener, the $175,000 Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at 12:10pm (NSW time), She’s A Fox is a beautifully bred daughter of top Australian sire Fastnet Rock out of US-bred Forest Native.

A $600,000 yearling purchase, she debuted under the lights at Canterbury on March 16 and caught the eye with an impressive one and three quarter length victory over 1100-metres.

Now Cummings has his eye on a much larger prize with She’s A Fox to take the step up to Group company at Rosehill on Saturday.

Despite her inexperience She’s A Fox is considered the unknown factor in the feature offering a ballot free ride into Saturday week’s 2012 Golden Slipper field to the winner, and has opened top of the Magic Night Stakes odds at bookmaker.com.au at a quote of $3.40.

She is at much longer odds in the futures for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on Easter Saturday, She’s A Fox paying $31 through bookmaker.com.au to win the world’s richest race for juveniles as she is yet to earn a start.

Just two of her rivals are considered single-figure chances at this stage with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Later Gator ($8 bookmaker.com.au) in barrier six and Ichihara ($9) drawn nicely in gate four with Corey Brown to ride.

More Than Ready filly Lator Gator was also a Canterbury winner on debut back in February, and they come off a good third behind Epaulette in the Listed Black Opal Stakes (1200m) at Canberra form March 11.

Allan Denham’s General Nediym filly Ichihara is undefeated to date with two career wins to their name, the last an impressive performance at Warwick Farm over 1100-metres.

Surprisingly Mackay visitor Doubtfilly is paying a juicy $11, great odds that are sure to get smashed and shorten soon.

She has won four of her six starts to date, the last three on the trot, and looked like a star in the making last start when beating stakes-grade galloper Snipzu over 1200m in a lucrative QTIS Bonus Plate at the Gold Coast.

Other notable Magic Night Stakes hopefuls and their current prices include the Gerald Ryan-trained Cavalry Rose ($10) coming off a fourth in the Black Opal, Grahame Begg’s Encosta De Lago filly Kyria ($10) who has run third in two Sydney Group races this season, the John Thompson-trained improver Varanasi ($10) and Waterhouse’s Sweet Embrace Stakes runner-up Valerio ($11).
