Golden Slipper 2012 Update – Hussousa Ruled Out

Highly promising filly Hussousa has today been ruled out of the 2012 Golden Slipper after suffering shin soreness following her second-place effort in Saturday’s Reisling Stakes.

The John Thompson trained horse sat ninth in the most recent order of entry for the glamour two-year-old race on the back of some impressive performances including a second-place effort behind Pierro in the Silver Slipper Stakes.

She was among the top group of horses in the betting market to take out the prized two-year-old event and at time of withdrawal was paying $15.00.

The current Golden Slipper favourite is the horse who beat Hussousa in the Reisling Stakes, Samaready.

Trained by Mick Price, the More Than Ready filly is currently paying $2.50 ( to take top honours in the $3.5 million race after producing a dominant display in the lead up to the event.

She is unbeaten from four starts and included in those victories is a sizzling three-length win in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and the Group 2 Reisling which she won by two lengths.

Next best in the betting is Black Caviar’s half brother All Too Hard and Gai Waterhouse trained colt Pierro who both sit at $6.50.

It remains to be seen whether All Too Hard will even line up in the Golden Slipper after being entered to run in this week’s Pago Pago Stakes.

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes said a decision would be made after assessing the star colt’s recovery following Saturday’s race.

Pierro is also unbeaten and as a son of Lohnro, is another to come from good pedigree.

He was the horse who beat Hussousa in the Silver Slipper Stakes and then went on to win the Group 2 Todman Stakes over Epaulette last weekend.

Epaulette sits behind the three favourites at $10.00 along with Magic Millions and Blue Diamiond Stakes second-place getter No Looking Back.
