Birthday Card Stakes 2012 Odds – Gybe Narrow Favourite

Anthony Cummings’ Fastnet Rock mare Gybe is the narrow favourite in a tight market for the 2012 Birthday Card Stakes, the last race on a bumper nine-event Rosehill Guineas Day card this Saturday.

Gybe is the narrow 2012 Birthday Card Stakes betting favourite for Saturday at Rosehill Gardens

Thirteen fillies and mares remain in contention for the $125,000 Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m), running as Rosehill Race 9 at 5:30pm (NSW time) on Saturday, following the early scratching of #5 Satin Shoes.

Clarry Conners’ young filly will instead race against odds-on favourite Rain Affair and the ultra-consistent Bel Sprinter in the $175,000 Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1100m) earlier in the day.

Of the remaining hopefuls there are four single-figure chances in the Birthday Card Stakes odds at bookmaker.com.au, the shortest-priced of which is Gybe at $5.

Jumping from barrier 10 with Blake Shinn in the saddle four-year-old Gybe resumed with a good first-up fourth in the Listed Wenona Girl Handicap (1200m) at Randwick on March 17, and with her very smart record at the track and distance could take some beating even from that barrier.

Following Gybe in the 2012 Birthday Card Stakes betting markets are then:

  • #7 Divorces ($6 bookmaker.com.au) – Peter Snowden-trained Domesday four-year-old is well tried at Group level, has four times raced in Group 1’s most recently finishing fourth to Kiwi filly Scarlett Lady in the Queensland Oaks last June, was checked badly that run and had five months off, only one run in the spring but if she is back in form is a genuine threat
  • #12 Miss Marx ($6.50 bookmaker.com.au)- John O’Shea’s Anabaa mare was last seen finishing a good fourth in a Magic Millions Day race at the Gold Coast in January, should be fresh for this but hasn’t won a race since last May, still that was first-up over this track and distance so don’t discount
  • #1 Curtana ($7.50 bookmaker.com.au) – Peter Moody’s daughter of Exceed And Excel comes off a Wenona Girl fifth and could have improvement in her, she hasn’t seen Rosehill and would suggest Flemington suits her better
  • #8 Celts ($9 bookmaker.com.au) – Snowden’s other runner, this Lonhro four-year-old won first-up at Moonee Valley and has good form at Rosehill over 1200m including her third in the 2010 Magic Night Stakes
