Mark Kavanagh trained filly Alezan Thunder is the horse to beat in the Group 3 2012 Marsh Breeders Stakes which stands as the only Group race at Morphetville this weekend.
The $115,000 race will see a nine-horse field of two-year-old horses compete over the sprinter’s distance of 1200 metres.
Alezan Thunder today received a wide barrier seven draw but still seems the most credentialed horse and is likely to start as favourite when the betting markets open in the next couple of days.
The talented filly impressed many when she scored a three-length victory in the Seeley International Plate on debut and since then has yet to finish worse than third.
She finished third behind Driefontein and No Looking Back in January’s famous Magic Millions event at the Gold Coast and is coming off a close second in the Listed Pewsey Vale Stakes at Morphetville.
One horse coming off a win heading into the Marsh Breeders Stakes is Dean Lawson trained colt Underestimation who took out the Listed St Albans Stakes at Moonee Valley on March 16.
It was the by far the best result to date for the Melbourne based horse who finished fifth and seventh in his first two career races.
Road Trippin will be looking to build on a decent 2012 which has seen the gelding place in all three of his starts.
He finished second to Golden Slipper fancy Snitzerland in the Inglis Premier at Mornington before running third in the VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes which was won by the much-hyped All Too Hard.
Another Mark Kavanagh trained horse in the field is Tormented who will be tested against higher quality opposition after winning on debut.
