Final Field Announced for 2012 WA Oaks

A bumper day of racing is set to take place in the nation’s west this Saturday and one of the highlights is the Group 3 2012 WA Oaks which will test a talented field of three-year-old fillies over 2400 metres.

The $250,000 event stands as the sixth race on an eight-race card at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse and the hot early favourite is the Fred Kersley trained Caiguna.

Fresh off a win in the Natasha Stakes, Caiguna has received a favourable barrier six draw for Saturday and is currently paying $2.90 to take top honours.

Giving her some stiff competition will be Pop Culture ($3.20), who finished runner-up to Caiguna in the Natasha Stakes and has been in excellent form.

The Colin Webster trained horse has recorded three victories in 2012 including the Ascot 1000 Guineas on March 3.

Elite Belle sits just behind the top two in the market at $5.50 but remains a chance of upsetting the front runners after also producing some impressive runs of late.

She finished second in the Ascot 1000 Guineas before running a respectable fourth in the Natasha Stakes on March 17.

With William Pike in the saddle, Elite Belle will have to produce an excellent run from barrier nine considering both Caiguna (6) and Pop Culture (5) will start mid-field.

Outside of the top three, the next best in the betting market is Opera Seria ($10.00) who will have to turn around some disappointing form to be a chance after running ninth in the Natasha Stakes.

Young jockey Kyra Yuill will ride Dark Miss who will attempt to build on a promising 2012 start that has included mid-field finishes in the Ascot 1000 Guineas and the Natasha Stakes.

Other horses set to run in the 2012 WA Oaks include Shezapro, First Hit, The Social Network and Bag Of Stars.

Betting is now available on the WA Oaks, so head to to get the best value prices when betting.

The Australian owned bookmaker is the favourite due to their amazing odds and sensational $300 bonus bet offer for first time depositing customers!
