Talented filly Caiguna is the current favourite to win the feature Group 3 $250,000 2012 WA Oaks which will be held at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse this weekend.
The Fred Kersley trained horse currently sits at $2.90 in the early bookmaker.com.au betting market ahead of a host of talented Western Australian three-year-old fillies who will be tested over 2400 metres.
Caiguna earnt his favouritism on the back of some recent good form, with his most recent win coming on March 17 in the Listed Natasha Stakes.
He will start just in front of the highly rated Pop Culture, a horse she has shared an exciting rivalry with in 2012.
Pop Culture finished behind Caiguna to run second in the Natasha Stakes but was too good the previous start when she won the Ascot 1000 Guineas.
Pop Culture has had more success in her young career with the Colin Webster trained filly having recorded three wins and four placings from eight starts while Caiguna has just two wins and two placings from nine trips to the track.
Caiguna finished seventh the first time the horses met this year in the Listed Budget Challenge Stakes while Pop Culture did well enough to run second in that race.
Next back in the bookmaker.com.au betting market is Elite Belle ($5.50), who will be looking to exact revenge on both horses after finishing third in the Ascot 1000 Guineas and fourth in the Natasha Stakes.
Behind the three front runners, the betting market becomes more cluttered with four horses ranging from $10.00 to $14.00.
Dark Miss ($10.00) has finished mid-field in all the WA Oaks lead up races while fellow $10.00 chance Opera Seria will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing ninth-place effort in the Natasha Stakes.
At $13.00, Shezapro provides some value for the punters and is coming into the race in good form by following up a win in Pinjarra with a third-place effort in the Natasha Stakes.
Amped ($61.00) and Bag Of Stars ($81.00) are the long shot outsiders and outside of a miracle run, look unlikely to challenge the front runners on Saturday.
The preliminary WA Oaks market is now open at bookmaker.com.au so get in early and back your winner.
