A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
The best three-year-old fillies in the West will be in action this Saturday when the Group 3 2012 WA Oaks runs at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse.
The $250,000 event is a stayer’s race (2400m) and will see the talented Caiguna and Pop Culture continue their 2012 rivalry.
With the bookmaker.com.au preliminary market now open, Fred Kersley trained Caiguna is slight ($2.90) favourite after winning the Natasha Stakes on March 17.
Pop Culture ($3.10) finished runner-up to Caiguna that day but had her measure in the previous start when she won the Ascot 1000 Guineas and Caiguna finished fourth.
She also beat Caiguna in February’s Listed Budget Challenge Stakes when she recorded a second-place effort compared to Caiguna’s seventh.
It will be interesting to see how both horses handle the step up in distance this weekend, having both previously raced at a maximum of 2200 metres.
Despite all the attention likely to be on the two favourites, some other quality horses will turn out this weekend in the feature race.
Elite Belle ($5.50 – bookmaker.com.au) finished second to Pop Culture in the Ascot 1000 Guineas and the Grant Williams trained horse will be looking to exact revenge on both front runners after finishing fourth in the Natasha Stakes.
Ross and Clint Price trained filly Opera Seria ($10.00) has been successful in regional meetings at Pinjarra and Bunbury and will be looking to prove she can match it in the city after so far finishing a best of fifth from two starts at the premier Perth track.
Other horses included in nominations for the 2012 WA Oaks include Dark Miss ($10.00), Shezapro ($13.00) and The Social Network ($14.00).
Neville Parnham trained Bag Of Stars is the bookmaker.com.au long-shot outsider ($81.00) after not recording victory in seven career starts.
With the early fixed odds market now open for the WA Oaks, be sure to head to bookmaker.com.au to get the best odds.
Home of the $300 bonus bet offer for new customers, the Races.com.au preferred bookie is Australian owned and has the best value prices for all your racing needs.
