Quality Stayers Nominated for N E Manion Cup 2012

A quality field of horses have been nominated to contest the Listed $100,000 2012 N E Manion Cup which will be held at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

The 2400 metre race gives some high-class stayers a chance to show their wares ahead of the bigger staying races later in the Autumn.

Herculian Prince

Herculian Prince will be looking to build on recent good form in the N E Manion Cup

At the top of the nominations list is well-known New Zealand horse Efficient who has amassed over $4.6 million in prize money.

The former Melbourne Cup winner will be looking to return to winning ways after a disappointing spring and a best effort of fifth so far in 2012.

Another former Group 1 winner nominated for the N E Manion Cup is Gai Waterhouse trained gelding Herculian Prince.

The five-year-old boasts a record of nine wins from 28 outings and is fresh off a second-place finish in the Randwick City Stakes on March 17.

He is one of four Waterhouse-trained horses nominated to run with Tullamore, Kinnersley and Older Than Time also included.

Five-year-old gelding Kinnersley is coming off a win over 2200 metres at Warwick Farm on March 10 but faces a step up in class in Saturday’s Listed race.

Trained by the prolific Peter Moody, five-year-old Hanks will be having his first run since finishing a disappointing fifth in the Adelaide Cup.

The gelding went into the race as one of the favourites on the back of some prior good form that included winning the Hafele Australia Handicap and the Sportingbet Night Cup at Moonee Valley.

Niwot is another nominated horse with an impressive resume, boasting eight wins from 26 starts.

Part of the Hawkes family stable, the seven-year-old is race-hardened after competing in high quality Group races in 2012 and is coming a fourth-place finish in the Ranvet Stakes last weekend.

As always in a stayer’s race, a large number of international horse have been nominated including Permit (Great Britain), Stand To Gain (Ireland) and six horses from New Zealand.
