Nominations Released for Karrakatta Plate 2012

An exciting day of racing is set to take place in the nation’s West this Saturday and one of the feature races on the Ascot card is the Group 2 $500,000 Karrakatta Plate.

Run over 1200 metres, the exciting sprint will test the best two-year-old horses in the West over 1200 metres and one likely to be among the front runners is filly Darlington Abbey.

The Simon Miller trained horse is unbeaten from three career starts with highlight wins coming in the Magic Millions Perth Classic and the Listed Gimcrack Stakes on March 17.

Simon Miller would like his chances of experiencing success on Saturday with Miss Solis another successful filly of his set to run.

Miss Solis finished second to Darlington Abbey in the Gimcrack Stakes but prior to that was unbeaten from three previous starts including the Listed Supremacy Stakes on March 3.

Adelaide filly Alezan Thunder is likely to make the trip West for the Karrakatta Plate and the Mark Kavanagh trained horse has been in good form.

She has two wins from five outings and followed up a third-place effort in the famous Magic Millions at the Gold Coast with victory in the Listed Pewsey Vale Stakes at Morphetville earlier this month.

Two more local horses who are genuine chances of taking top billings in the $500,000 race are El Rijes and Luke’s Luck.

El Rijes is fresh off a win in the Perth Stakes while Luke’s Luck ran fourth in that race after finishing runner-up to Miss Solis in the Supremacy Stakes.

Other horses included in Karrakatta Plate nominations are Gimcrack Stakes third-place getter Fuddle Dee Duddle and last-start winner Detection.
