Marsh Breeders Stakes 2012 – Nominations Released

Group racing returns to Adelaide this weekend, with the $115,000 Group 3 2012 Marsh Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) set to take place at Morphetville.

Headlining the list of 13 horses nominated for the the two-year-old event is the Mark Kavanagh trained Alezan Thunder.

The filly is coming off a second-place effort in the Listed Pewsey Vale Stakes and prior to that ran third in the famous Magic Millions event at the Gold Coast.

Alezan Thunder has shown plenty of promise in her young career, recording two wins and three placings from five starts.

Despite having not recorded a win to date, gelding Road Trippin will come into the race in good form.

The gelding is coming off a third-place effort behind the much-hyped All Too Hard and Pronto Pronto in the Group 2 Henry Bucks Sires Produce Stakes at Flemington on March 10.

Prior to that he recorded two straight second-place finishes including in the Inglis Premier at Mornington behind Golden Slipper fancy Snitzerland.

One horse coming off a victory is Big Chill, who won a two-year-old race at Sale after finishing a highly disappointing fifteenth in her debut race in the Emirates Airline Plate last November.

Underestimation is another horse coming into the race in good form after recording victory last start in  the Listed St Albans Stakes at Moonee Valley.

It was the first time the colt had run the Marsh Stakes distance of 1200 metres and appeared to be at home with the extra distance after finishing a best of fifth over 1000 metres in two previous starts.

Other horses included in the nominations for the 2012 Marsh Breeders Stakes are Daytona Grey, Family Portrait and the Greg Eurell trained Lethal Rock.
