Allan Denham’s unbeaten local filly Ichihara will shoot for career win number three from three this Saturday at Rosehill when she goes up against a smart field of fellow two-year-old rivals in the 2012 Magic Night Stakes.
While the Golden Slipper 2012 ballot exemption into the world’s richest juvenile’s race on Easter Saturday would be wasted on the daughter of General Nediym should she win the $175,000 Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m), jockey Corey Brown is hopeful he can get the job done with her on Saturday.
After a win at Wyong on debut on March 1 over 1000-metres, Ichihara went on to beat a quality field by a minimum one and three quarter lengths in the Schweppes 2YO Plate (1100m) at Warwick Farm on March 10.
Brenton Avdulla was aboard for both, but Brown will be aboard on Saturday with Avdulla engaged to ride the Grahame Begg-trained Encosta De Lago filly Kyria in the event.
Kyria is yet to break her maiden status from three career starts, but has been thereabouts with the best of them most recently finishing just over a half a length away third to Jade Marauder in the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 17.
While Ichihara is not currently nominated for the $3.5 million Group 1 AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) Saturday week, Kyria is and she pays $51 as one of the outsiders in the Golden Slipper odds at bookmaker.com.au.
Connections have until 11:00am (NSW time) on Tuesday April 2 to pay the hefty $150,000 late Golden Slipper entry fee.
Among the big name Magic Night Stakes nominees, the final field to be released on Wednesday, are Stuart Kendrick’s in-form Queenslander Doubtfilly, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Later Gator and Anthony Cummings’ up-and-comer She’s A Fox.
