Doubtfilly Leads 2012 Magic Night Stakes Nominations

Stuart Kendrick’s Queensland visitor Doubtfilly will make her interstate debut in this Saturday’s Magic Night Stakes 2012 at Rosehill, the in-form daughter of Not A Single Doubt shooting for her fifth career win from just seven starts.

Doubtfilly has won her last three straight in the Sunshine State, the Mackay-based runner last seen putting an easy five and a half lengths on the stakes performing Snipzu to win the Sky Racing Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast on March 17.

She will now travel to Sydney for the $175,000 Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Garden’s Rosehill Guineas Day, the last race offering a 2012 Golden Slipper ballot exemption to the winning filly.

While Doubtfilly isn’t currently nominated for the $3.5 million Group 1 AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 7, connections have until April 2 to pay a hefty $150,000 late entrance fee to get her into the race should she win on Saturday.

Also looking to extend their winning streak in Saturday’s Magic Night Stakes is the Allan Denham-trained Ichihara undefeated in their two starts to date.

Anthony Cummings’ promising Fastnet Rock filly She’s A Fox is another unbeaten filly looking to stay that way come Saturday afternoon after she scored an eye-catching win at Canterbury back on March 16.

A full sister to Friday night’s upset William Reid Stakes winner Foxwedge, She’s A Fox will be ridden by Peter Robl as she attempts to sneak into the Golden Slipper field.

Cummings has also nominated for Agueda, the daughter of General Nediym last seen finishing a close fourth to Jade Marauder in the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m).

Sweet Embrace Stakes runner-up Valerio is also nominated to back up in the Magic Night Stakes 2012.

The Strategic filly scored a narrow win on debut at Canterbury before their close second in the Sweet Embrace, trainer Gai Waterhouse confident she has improvement in her.

“Valerio was only just run down in the Sweet Embrace by Jade Marauder, and she has really come on since that run,” Waterhouse said.

Other notable 2012 Magic Night Stakes nominations include the Gerald Ryan-trained Cavalry Rose, Chris Waller’s three length Kembla Grange winner in January Catkins, and the Waterhouse’s other hopeful Later Gator coming off a good third in the Black Opal Stakes in Canberra.

Rosehill Guineas Day acceptances will be taken on Wednesday with the final fields, including that for the Magic Night Stakes, to be published right here at
