Manighar Wins Again – Ranvet Stakes 2012 Results

Manighar wins back-to-back Group 1s in the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill

French gelding Manighar has continued his tremendous success on Australian soil by backing up his Australian Cup win with victory in today’s Group 1 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

The six-year-old Peter Moody trained horse beat a quality field of stayers to take top honours in the $400,000 event including Chipping Norton Stakes winner Shoot Out and Australian Cup runner-up Southern Speed.

Last years long-shot winner Zavite shot to the lead early in the race and managed to stay there up until the final straight when the quality stayers picked up the pace.

Manighar and two-time Group 1 winner Rangirangdoo separated themselves from the pack down the home stretch and pushed each other all the way before Manighar found an extra gear to win by a head.

Pre-race favourite Shoot Out tried hard down the straight but was unable to match the two front runners and had to settle with third.

Trainer Peter Moody said he was continually impressed the the star import who is now on the way to the BMW.

“He’s learnt how to win hasn’t he,” Moody said.

“He just continues to thrive and he just really enjoys our [Australian] conditions.”

Manighar has benefitted from the Peter Moody-Luke Nolen combination and jockey Nolen is excited about the horse ahead of the BMW in two weeks time.

“He’ll be better experienced for his first run at Rosehill and I’m really looking forward to the BMW now,” Nolen said.

The action seems to be never ending at Rosehill today with the prized Coolmore Classic up next.
