Colorado Claire Scores 2012 Phar Lap Stakes Victory

John O’Shea trained horse Colorado Claire has bounced back from an eighth-place effort in the Canberra Guineas to take top honours in today’s 2012 Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

The filly came into the race as fifth favourite behind more-fancied rivals like Hobartville Stakes winner Wild And Proud and the heavily-backed That’s The One.

Ridden by up and coming New Zealand jockey James Mcdonald, Colorado Claire proved too good for the males and won by a head in front of Rekindled Alliance to take top billings in the Group 2 $175,000 event.

Colorado Claire trainer John O’Shea was full of praise for both horse and jockey alike after the race.

“She’s always been a really quality filly,” O’Shea said.

“The other thing we have to make mention of is this wonderful talent that is James McDonald.

“He’s just a wonderful ride.”

McDonald said he was grateful to be riding some quality horses for the O’Shea stable.

“The whole team of O’Shea stable have been really good. It’s easy to steer these good horses,” he said.

“Especially riding for a trainer like John, he always has them fit and ready to go.

“It’s a pleasure to ride for him.”

Pre-race favourite Wild and Proud tried hard but was a length off the lead and finished in third place.

Colorado Claire is a highly promising filly and now has an excellent early career record of five wins from seven starts.
