2012 Reisling Stakes Winner Deserving Golden Slipper Favourite

Early Golden Slipper favourite Samaready has shown her class today by taking top honours in the Group 2 2012 Reisling Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

Coming off a victory in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, the More Than Ready filly added another title to her unbeaten record as she continues her run to the 2012 Golden Slipper.

Samaready

Samaready today showed why she is the 2012 Golden Slipper favourite

The Mick Price trained filly came out of the gates slowly and jockey Craig Newitt was happy to have her sit towards the back of the field right up until the last turn.

As they came into the straight it was another Golden Slipper fancy Snitzerland who set the pace but Samaready lived up to the hype by showing tremendous acceleration to easily chase down the field and win by two lengths ahead of Hussousa and Meidung.

It is the last hit out for exciting filly ahead of the prized race for two-year-old horses and trainer Price is happy with her preparation.

“I think that is about as much as you want to see, I know she was sort of second last there but not a long way off,” Price said.

“She just got run off the track a little bit there by Snitzerland…but the last hundred was good.

“I’ve tried to allow plenty of improvement into the Slipper so she’s bascially done and ready now.”

Jockey Craig Newitt was full of praise for the two-year-old who seemingly always responds to the rider.

“The beauty about this filly is she just does everything I ask her to,” Newitt said.

“We just keep her ticking over for the next fortnight [ahead of the Golden Slipper] and we’ll be very happy.

“She’s a star with a capital S.”

Promising horse Snitzerland has also been talked about among the Slipper favourites but despite pushing hard down the straight, the Gerald Ryan trained filly had to settle with fourth place.
