William Reid Stakes 2012 Tips & Odds

Tonight the race all fans and punters will be waiting for is the sixth at Moonee Valley, the 2012 William Reid Stakes featuring a crack field of sprinters led by Hay List, the Races.com.au teams’ exclusive tips for which are detailed below.

Hay List

Hay List is the Races.com.au tip to win the 2012 William Reid Stakes tonight

Earlier in the week we did a comprehensive William Reid Stakes 2012 Form Guide & Betting Preview on the $400,000, Group 1 clash that will take place over 1200-meters at 9:15pm (VIC time) under the lights this evening.

Our panel of tipsters has studied the eight-horse William Reid Stakes field, their lead-up form, betting stats and historical data on the race and come up with their insider selections and predictions.

To Win:

Hay List is a champion and a comeback King and looks prime to collect the Newmarket Handicap – William Reid Stakes double the way Black Caviar did as odds-on favourite last year.

He was gritty and downright brilliant in the Newmarket beating many of these same horses and getting back to weight-for-age will take some stopping.

With the lead-up form, the right weight, the best Win Rate (68.18%),  unbeaten record at the track and Group 1 Manikato Stakes win here under the lights in 2010, the only way he won’t win is via scratching.

Trifecta Tip:

  • #1 Hay List from #4 Rekindled Interest and #3 Woorim – Bet now at bookmaker.com.au

Rekindled Interest is back and ready for a big first-up run from last year’s winning gate (six).

Backed in early from $26 to $21 in the William Reid Stakes odds at bookmaker.com.au, last year’s Cox Plate and Mackinnon Stakes third placegetter is still good value for second.

They have won two from four at Moonee Valley, and while the distance is a little short fresh at this track will suit.

Buffering had a gut buster in the Newmarket and we think they will struggle to be competitive again despite the price, so fancy their stablemate Woorim to charge home late with his impressive 200-metre sectionals supporting this.

Sack Me:

While many of the others are firming, the punters have left Foxwedge despite his third in the Newmarket.

If he couldn’t do it then with that big weight advantage, he’s unlikely to do it here weight-for-age.

Also unsure if the tight circuit at Moonee Valley, which Foxwedge sees for the first time, will suit.

Roughie Bet:

Looking to go back-to-back for Peter Moody and while she won’t win, could be a danger for the minor placings.

Has Luke Nolen aboard and boasts the second best Win Rate of the field (50.00%).

She’s also a cracker over the 1200m and has won at the track and distance before.
