Under The Hat Outright Favourite – 2012 Albury Cup Betting Update

There has been some movement in the betting markets ahead of today’s Listed $170,000 2012 Albury Cup which will see some decent stayers battle it out over 2000 metres.

Coming off a win in the Mittys Handicap at Flemington, Under The Hat has shortened to $3.40 to overtake World Wide ($3.75) at the top end of the bookmaker.com.au betting market.

Originally 16 horses were named to run but with four horses withdrawn over the past couple of days, the field has been condensed to 12.

World Wide is coming off a second-place finish in the Canberra Cup and trainer Bede Murray said yesterday the horse was “spot on” heading into the race.

“The 2000 metres is about World Wide’s right distance, I couldn’t be happier with him,” he said.

New Zealand horse Muirfield is the market mover after coming in considerably to $4.80 at bookmaker.com.au.

The money for the Michael Moroney trained gelding is a result of the four-year-old’s sizzling form coming into the event.

Muirfield is chasing a third consecutive victory after winning the PFD Foodservices Handicap in early February and then the Le Pine Funerals Handicap at Sandown-Hillside on March 7.

One question over Muirfield will be whether he can cope with a wide barrier draw as he will come from barrier 10 with Nicholas Hall in the saddle.

Top weight Extra Zero may be carring 60kg and be running from the widest barrier, but the punters have not given up on the David Hayes trained gelding who is currently paying $7.50 at bookmaker.com.au.

The five-year-old son of Danzero has three wins from 34 starts and is coming off a seventh-place finish in the 2012 Blamey Stakes.

Other horses set to run in today’s Albury Cup include King Diamond ($9.00), Cheviot Beach ($10.00) and Down Under Boy ($18.00).

The Albury Cup is the sixth race on the eight-race card at Albury today and the feature event is set to jump at 4:20pm (NSW Time).

With all the action not too far away, be sure to head to bookmaker.com.au to back your winner.

The Australian owned bookie is the Races.com.au favourite due to their sensational odds and $300 bonus bet offer for first time depositing customers!
