Spirit Song has won the Group 2 Sunline Stakes on protest at Moonee Valley Racecourse tonight March, 23, 2012.
It was originally thought Lady Lynette had claimed victory in her final swansong before becoming a broodmare before the protest was upheld.
The seven-year-old mare almost had a perfect end to her impressive career with a 2012 Sunline Stakes win.
However, a protest was lodged by Spirit Song’s jockey Nash Rawiller against Lady Lynette over interference sustained at the 1,200 metres.
Co-trainer David Brunton was positive Lady Lynette had won the 2012 Sunline Stakes.
“That was her last go tonight,” Brunton said.
“It’s the end of the road.
“She’s as honest as they come.
“But she’s done an incredible job.”
Brunton told of how Lady Lynette changed their lives for the better.
“Until she came along we were eating paint off the walls,” he said.
“It’s just been an incredible ride.
“He’s had a great association with her.
“I hope I find another one like her.
“Words couldn’t express how good it’s been.
“She’s a credit to everyone who works with her.”
Michael Guthrie was on board Lady Lynette in the 2012 Sunline Stakes, and is sure to be disciplined for causing interference in the race.
“She’s tough and gee she’s a good mare, isn’t she?” Guthrie said.
“She’s been a good horse to the whole family.”
Spirit Song has now won seven of her 19 race starts and has earned more than $400,000 in prize money.
