Unbeaten colt Pierro heads into tomorrow’s 2012 Todman Stakes as odds-on favourite in a field that includes a number of Golden Slipper hopefuls.
The son of Lohnro is currently paying $1.90 ahead of the $300,000 Group 2 event which stands as his final hit out before the prized Golden Slipper event on April 14.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse, Pierro has impressed with two wins from two starts with the most recent being a win in the Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill on March 3.
He will be ridden by Nash Rawiller tomorrow and the jockey said he could not be happier with Pierro’s preparation heading into the race.
“He’s done everything right so far and Saturday is another step in the right direction,” he said.
“I’m very confident going into the race. He’s the horse they’ve got to beat.”
Despite some quality colts and geldings in the field, we at Races.com.au believe the exciting two-year-old will continue his march towards the Golden Slipper by taking top billings in the first race at Rosehill tomorrow.
A log jam in the betting market exists behind the short-priced favourite with Black Opal Stakes winner Epaulette and John O’Shea trained runner up Faustus both paying $5.50.
Despite both horses impressing so far in their young careers, it is another O’Shea trained horse that is tipped by Races.com.au to follow Pierro past the line.
Shelford ($6.00) has only had one start to date but the colt impressed when he finished a close second to Golden Slipper fancy Raceway in the Canonbury Stakes.
He was scheduled to run at Randwick last weekend before being scratched due to wet weather. With a firming track at Rosehill this weekend, the promising two-year-old will be out to press his slipper claims.
Amorino ($7.50) is the only other horse who has a chance of finishing in the top three but is likely to struggle starting from the outside barrier.
Red Excitement and Trophies remain untouched by the punters and are both sitting at $101.00.
2012 Todman Stakes – Tips
After analysing the form, we at Races.com.au are here to give our exclusive tips for the Todman Stakes. Pierro looks to be too strong and should keep his unbeaten record in tact as he cements his place as a genuine Golden Slipper contender. We believe exciting colt Shelford will improve on his only ever start to date and come home behind the favourite. Epaulette’s unbeaten run is likely to end but he should have enough talent to grab third place.
#2 Pierro from #6 Shelford and #1 Epaulette
