Canterbury Stakes 2012 – Odds Update and Tips

A bumper day of racing is set to take place at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow and one exciting race on the card is the Group 2 $175,000 2012 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

Odds-on favourite More Joyous is paying $2.60 at and the glamour mare should prove too classy in her first hit out following a spell.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse, the five-year-old is a five-time Group 1 winner and boasts a career record of 15 wins from 22 starts.

More Joyous

More Joyous will starts as a short-priced favourite in the Canterbury Stakes this weekend believe she is too talented to lose tomorrow’s race despite it being her first gallop since a seventh-placed effort in last year’s Myer Classic.

A total of eight Group 1 winners will turn out in tomorrow’s Canterbury Stakes with Chris Waller trained gelding Albert The Fat ($14.00) included in that group.

A quality gelding who has collected over $1.2 million in prize money and won 11 times from 32 starts, the seven-year-old is coming off a disappointing eighteenth in the Newmarket Handicap.

Despite his poor effort last start, the team believe the two time Group 1 winner has the talent to turn it around when he runs out of barrier five with experienced jockey Glyn Schofield on top.

Gary Portelli trained four-year-old Somepin Anypin ($10.00) has showed promise in his young career and the believes he will step up in his toughest outing to date.

The gelding has won six of 13 starts and is coming off a first-up second in the Liverpool City Cup two weeks ago.

Prior to being spelled, Somepin Anypin was in sizzling form as he won three straight races with the highlight being a four-length victory in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup.

Other horses that may challenge for a spot in the top three include race second-favourite Love Conquers All ($7.00), George Main Stakes winner Sincero ($10.00) and 2011 Myer Classic champion Hurtle Myrtle ($11.00).
