Wild And Proud Heads 2012 Phar Lap Stakes Betting

Despite a disappointing tenth-place finish last weekend in the Randwick Guineas, Gai Waterhouse trained gelding Wild And Proud will line up as favourite in this Saturday’s Group 2 2012 Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

The Hobartville Stakes winner showed promise in the Group 1 Guineas event last Saturday but ran out of puff towards the final stages of the race that was taken out by super star filly Mosheen.

Just The Tonic and Rekindled Alliance

Rekindled Alliance will get his Autumn campaign back on track in the Phar Lap Stakes

He has opened as $3.50 favourite at bookmaker.com.au and the Hobartville Stakes winner should appreciate the 100 metre drop back in distance with last weekend’s 1600 metre race his longest to date.

Prior to the Randwick Guineas, the highly promising three-year-old won a 1400 metre three-year-old race before winning the Hobartville Stakes following a protest against Manawanui who was first past the post.

While Wild And Proud is the obvious favourite for the Phar Lap Stakes, betting is tight with a further four horses currently paying $8.00 or under.

That’s The One sits next best in the bookmaker.com.au betting market at $5.50 and the gelding has been in good form.

He began his 2012 campaign with a third-place effort in the Manfred Stakes before winning the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes and finishing fourth in the Australian Guineas.

Paul Messara trained colt Rekindled Alliance sits just behind at $6.00 and will use the race as an important stop on the road to the eventual target of the Australian Derby on April 14.

Promising filly Colorado Claire is next closest in the betting at $6.50 while Australian Guineas tenth-place finisher Fontelina is at $8.00.

Former Group 1 winner Benfica provides value for the punters ($15.00) though for the Peter Snowden trained colt to take top honours on Saturday he will have to turn around a horror 2012 run that has seen him collect two consecutive ninth-placings.

The fixed-odds market is now available for the 2012 Phar Lap Stakes at the Races.com.au favourite online bookie – bookmaker.com.au.

The Australian owned bookmaker offers a huge $300 bonus bet to new customers and has the best value odds on horse racing across the country!
