Shoot Out Heads 2012 Ranvet Stakes Field

Chipping Norton Stakes winner Shoot Out heads a high quality field of horses set to take part in this Saturday’s $400,000 Group 1 2012 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens.

The Chris Waller trained gelding has been in excellent form this year, following up places in the Expressway Stakes and the Apollo Stakes with a two-length victory over Danleigh in the Group 1 Chipping Norton.

Shoot Out

Shoot Out is the horse to beat in the 2012 Ranvet Stakes

A proven winner at Group 1 level, Shoot Out will be among the favourites to take top honours on Saturday and will be aided by a mid-field barrier draw (8) and having regular jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

Despite the five-year-old’s recent good form, the race is far form a foregone conclusion with a host of big name stayers today named in the final field.

French gelding Manighar has also been in excellent form and is coming off a Group 1 victory in the Australian Cup on March 10.

The Peter Moody trained six-year-old has won over $1.2 million in prize money and in three starts in 2012 has recorded two victories and one third-placing.

Out to exact revenge on Manighar will be Southern Speed, who finished only a nose behind the French gelding in the Australian Cup.

The four-year-old mare is a proven performer in big races, having won last year’s Caulfield Cup ahead of the likes of Green Moon, Tullamore, Manighar and Lucas Cranach.

Also included is Trusting who is chasing his first Group 1 victory after finishing second three times and winning at Group 2 level on another three occasions.

Apart from Shoot Out, another two Chris Waller trained horses are set to run in the Ranvet Stakes with Rangirangdoo and Hawk Island.

Rangirangdoo has been in terrible form of late but the gelding is a successful horse who has won 10 times from 24 starts including twice at Group 1 level.

Other horses included in the final field for the 2012 Ranvet Stakes are the Anthony Cummings trained Zavite and well known New Zealand gelding Wall Street.
