More Joyous to Return in 2012 Canterbury Stakes

Highly successful New Zealand mare More Joyous will have her first run since October when she lines up in the Group 2 2012 Canterbury Stakes at Rosehill Garden’s this Saturday.

The Gai Waterhouse trained five-year-old was today named in the final field for the $175,000 event which will be run over 1300 metres.

More Joyous

More Joyous will return from a spell in Saturday's Canterbury Stakes

A winner of more than $2.3 million in prize money, the More Than Ready mare has produced a highly successful career which is highlighted by five Group 1 victories.

She will be ridden by experienced jockey Nash Rawiller and her first up success chances were helped today when she received a favourable barrier seven draw.

More Joyous is one of a number of classy horses set to run in what is one of the key support races to the Ranvet Stakes and Coolmore Classic this weekend.

Chris Waller trained Albert The Fat may have finished a disappointing eighteenth first up in the Newmarket Handicap but the seven-year-old is a quality horse who will be better for the hit out.

The gelding has 11 wins from 32 starts with his last victory coming in November’s Group 1 Emirates Stakes ahead of King’s Rose and Secret Admirer.

New Zealand gelding Somepin Anypin is coming off a second-place finish in the Liverpool City Cup and the promising four-year-old Hawkesbury Cup winner gets a chance to test himself against some high quality opposition.

Another New Zealand horse named in the final field is Metal Bender, who is a two-time Group 1 winner and has amassed more than $1.6 million in prize money.

The Chris Waller trained six-year-old will be looking to record his first win on Australian soil since August 2010.

Also included in the final field for Saturday’s 2012 Canterbury Stakes are Sincero, Ilovethiscity, Happy Zero and Eagle Falls.
