She Goes To Rio Heads 2012 Keith Nolan Classic Nominations

After opting not to late nominate his Canberra Guineas winning She Goes To Rio for Saturday’s Coolmore Classic at Rosehill, Sydney horseman Anthony Cummings will take the improving filly to Kembla Grange on Sunday for the Keith Nolan Classic 2012.

While the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) boasts a lucrative total prize pool of $600,000, Cummings has opted not to test his daughter of Captain Rio at elite level just yet.

She Goes To Rio, then, is one of 12 three-year-old fillies nominated for Sunday’s $150,000 Keith Nolan Classic (1600m).

A winner of four of her five career starts to date She Goes To Rio was last seen beating home the better fancied Peter Snowden-trained Detours by three quarters of a length to win the Listed Canberra Guineas (1400m) on March 11.

She goes to the mile for the first time on Sunday, Cummings hopeful she can rise to the challenge and set herself up for the autumn and spring.

The Keith F Nolan Classic has been one by many quality fillies over the years including 2010 Crown Oaks champion Brazilian Pulse 12 months ago, when the race was run at Rosehill, who went on to run third in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at her next start.

This year’s $400,000 Vinery Stud Stakes runs at Rosehill’s Golden Slipper Day on Easter Saturday, April 7

Three other last-start winners also feature in the 2012 Keith Nolan Classic nominations with the Peter Moody-trained Chateau Margaux out for her fourth straight, Tracey Bartley’s Meghalaya from Wyong and Aliyana Tilde coming off a strong win on a wet track over the Gosford mile.

Other more noteworthy hopefuls include Guy Walter’s Commands filly Appearance last seen running fourth to Coolmore Classic-bound stablemate Streama in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on March 10, David Payne’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Guineas minor placegetter Happy Hussy and  the John O’Shea-trained Colorado Claire out to improve on her eighth in the Canberra Guineas.

Nominations have been extended until 11:00am (NSW time) tomorrow followed by the release of the 2012 Keith F Nolan Classic final field on Thursday.
