High Class Field Nominated – Canterbury Stakes 2012

A quality field of 17 horses have been nominated for the $175,000 Group 2 2012 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) which will take place at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

The vast majority of the horses nominated for the Canterbury Stakes would be well known to the average weekend punter and among the headline acts is two-time Group 1 winner Albert The Fat who has amassed more than $1.2 million prize money.

More Joyous

The prolific More Joyous has been included in 2012 Canterbury Stakes Nominations

The 2012 Emirates Stakes winner finished a disappointing eighteenth in the Newmarket Handicap but is a quality gelding who has won 11 times from 32 starts.

More Joyous is probably the highest profile horse nominated to run and the Gai Waterhouse trained mare brings with her a terrific record.

The five-year-old New Zealand horse has won 15 times from 22 outings and included in that is five Group 1 victories and more than $2.3 million in prize money.

More Joyous is part of a large contingent of New Zealand horses have been nominated to run that also includes Metal Bender and Somepin Anypin.

The Chris Waller trained Metal Bender is coming off a seventh-place effort in the Apollo Stakes but has won eight time from 20 starts including three times at Group 1 level.

Somepin Anypin finished second in his first up start in 2012 in the Liverpool City Cup but won his last three starts in 2011 which included the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup.

Sincero is another well known local horse included in nominations and it will the four-year-old’s first start this year if he runs on Saturday.

Trained by Stephen Farley, the gelding has scored Group 1 victories two times and has 11 career wins from 19 starts.

Other horses nominated to run in the 2012 Canterbury Stakes include Ilovethiscity, Love Conquers All and Happy Zero.
