Current Golden Slipper favourite Samaready is reportedly in flying form ahead of next month’s lucrative showdown, jockey Craig Newitt bullish over her chances in the Reisling Slipper Trial 2012 this weekend.
Mick Price’s daughter of More Than Ready is undefeated in her three career starts to date and looking to make it four straight this Saturday in the $300,000 Group 2 Reisling Slipper Trial (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.
Also known as the Reisling Stakes the race is one of two this Saturday, along with the colts and geldings Todman Slipper Trial, offering a ballot free ride into the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on Easter Saturday to the winner.
Samaready hardly needs the win, however, having already amassed over $733,000 in career prize money thanks mainly to her last start, three length effort to win in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 25.
Already topping the Golden Slipper odds at bookmaker.com.au at a quote of $4.80, Samaready will firm further in her favouritism for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds if she succeeds in winning her Sydney debut on Saturday.
Newitt couldn’t be happier with his mount and said the way Samaready had been working at Caulfield the opposite way was a very good sign.
“It’s just unbelievable how she has progressed since the Diamond,” he said.
“Without getting carried away, she has improved.
“She has trialed on very soft tracks and loves it.
“She’s worked the reverse way and nothing worries her.
“I’d expect her to win (on Saturday), that’s how much she has improved and then it will be a matter of keeping her ticking over until the Slipper.”
Along with Samaready another unbeaten filly will look to further their Golden Slipper claims in the Reisling with Anthony Cummings’ daughter of Fastnet Rock, She’s A Fox.
She’s a Fox debuted at Canterbury on March 16 to win over 1100-metres and Saturday will see her rise in class and distance.
The other most notable Reisling Slipper Trial nominees are then the Gerald Ryan-trained duo of Cavalry Rose coming off a close fourth in the Black Opal Stakes, and Snitzerland.
Snitzel filly Snitzerland is undefeated this season and presents the biggest danger to Samaready if accepted for the Reisling.
After going down by the narrowest of margins to Applegate in the Listed Emirates Airline Plate (1000m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day last year, Snitzerland resumed with a blistering four and a half length win over Road Trippin in the Inglis Premier (1200m) at Mornington on February 15.
She was last seen taking out the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) by an easy three lengths at Flemington on March 10, Saturday to be her first official look at a Sydney track.
Snitzerland, however, is prepared at Rosehill by Ryan and so has had plenty of experience there which could prove the difference.
“She (Snitzerland) has been around Rosehill plenty of times, she knows the track well,” Ryan said.
“Samaready has been very impressive, she is obviously a very good filly but she won the Blue Diamond Stakes in her backyard at Caulfield.
“She has to come up to Sydney and do it in our backyard, there is nothing to suggest that she won’t but there is still a box to tick for her.”
Full fields for all the Coolmore Classic Day events, including the Reisling Slipper Trial, will be released on Wednesday and published right here at Races.com.au.
