Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Peter Moody’s progressive Fastnet Rock colt Highly Recommended will put their Rosehill Guineas claims on the line when they race in the 2012 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley tonight.
Moody, who will welcome back his unbeaten star Black Caviar to his stables next week in preparation for her trip to Royal Ascot, said a good run by Highly Recommended in the $200,000 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) could see them earn a trip to Sydney this autumn.
The master Victorian horseman was looking at the $500,000 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on March 31, but the horse would have to prove themselves against a stop field tonight first.
“I’ve always had in mind a race like the Rosehill Guineas for him so he’ll need to run well,” Moody said.
Jumping as Moonee Valley Race 6 at 9:15pm (VIC time), the Alister Clark Stakes 2012 field features 10 top three-year-olds with the Mick Price-trained Proliferate ($4 bookmaker.com.au) and Victoria Derby third placegetter Sabrage ($4.40 bookmaker.com.au) leading the markets.
Just below them in the Alister Clark Stakes betting markets is then $5.50 chance Highly Recommended, due to jump from barrier six with Luke Nolen in the saddle.
Highly Recommended will be racing fourth up for the season and looking to improve their dismal winning strike rate.
From 11 starts they have crossed first just once, back in April last year in their race debut.
Still they have been thereabouts throughout their career recording a plethora of Group placings inkling their close third in the Group 3 CS Hays Stakes (1410m) last month.
They drop back in class tonight after a hard fought fifth when beaten seven lengths by the brilliant filly Mosheen in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 3.
Moody is also praying that the rain stays away at the Valley tonight and the track remains a Dead (5), which would suit Highly Recommended to a tee.
“The track’s not too bad, I’m sure he will (run well),” Moody said.
It is a crack field for the Alister Clark tonight, other livewire chances including shock Australian Guineas third placegetter Mister Milton ($8 bookmaker.com.au) and Dany The Fox out to give trainer Michael Kent back-to-back wins in the race following the success of Domesky 12 months ago.
