There has been some movement in the betting for the Group 3 2012 Skyline Stakes (1200m) which will take place tomorrow as part of Randwick Guineas Day at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse.
Early Golden Slipper chance Raceway remains the odds-on bookmaker.com.au favourite at $1.95 but the Gai Waterhouse trained horse has moved out from $1.70.
Coming off two unbeaten starts, the slight widening in the odds may be due to the fact he has drawn the widest barrier of the field but with Hugh Bowman in the saddle we at Races.com.au think Raceway will remain unbeaten following the Skyline Stakes on Saturday.
Fresh off a fourth-place effort in the Silver Slipper, plenty of money has been pouring in for exciting colt Collect.
When markets opened early this week, Collect was sitting at over $20.00 but after some big splurges by punters, bookmaker.com.au are now offering $9.00 for the son of Fastnet Rock.
He was beaten by a quality field in his only ever start in the Silver Slipper and showed enough potential for the Races.com.au to tip the colt to record an upset second-place finish in the Skyline Stakes tomorrow.
The only thing that may count against the promising young horse on race day is his wide barrier draw (11).
If experienced jockey Corey Brown can help him overcome that hurdle then he should have no problem finishing at the front end of the 12 horse field.
John O’Shea trained Shelford is the second favourite ($4.00) at bookmaker.com.au and the colt showed enough in his one and only start in February to suggest he has the talent to challenge for top honours on Saturday.
The Golden Slipper hopeful’s one and only race came on February 18 when he ran a close second to Saturday’s race favourite Raceway.
Another John O’Shea trained colt Ashokan finished second in his only start to date and provides some value for the punters at $14.00.
The Peter Moody trained Lyric and Limes are paying $12.00 and $14.00 respectively.
The 2012 Skyline Stakes is the second race on the Randwick Guineas Day card and is set to jump at 1:40pm (AEDT).
