Golden Slipper fancy Raceway will start as odds-on favourite in Saturday’s Group 3 $125,000 Skyline Stakes (1200m) which will be held at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse.
Now paying $1.70 for Saturday’s race, the Gai Waterhouse trained horse is currently sitting as fourth favourite ($7.50) in the bookmaker.com.au early Golden Slipper market.
Despite an outside barrier draw (12), Raceway is a deserving favourite for the Skyline, having gone through his first two starts undefeated.
According to the markets, the only other horse that is a chance on Saturday is John O’Shea trained Golden Slipper hopeful Shelford who is currently paying $4.00.
The colt has only had one start to date where he finished second in the Canonbury Stakes at Warwick Farm last month but O’Shea is not necessarily expecting victory on Saturday.
O’Shea said he is just hoping both Shelford and his other Skyline runner Ashokan can continue to improve ahead of the Golden Slipper.
“We’ll keep heading towards the Golden Slipper irrespective of winning or losing on Saturday,” he said.
Ashokan provides some value for the punters on Saturday at $15.00 with the More Than Ready Colt having finished second in his only start to date in February’s Juniors Handicap at Rosehill.
Prolific trainer Peter Moody has two horses running on Saturday and the pick of those is Lyric ($11.00) who will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy from barrier 10 in his first run back following a spell.
The other Snowden trained horse Limes is currently paying $15.00 and will also be having his first up run after being spelled in November.
