Ascot Saturday Racing – 2012 JC Roberts Stakes Field & Barriers

A capacity field of gallopers has been accepted for one of the key races on the Ascot Saturday racing program this weekend, the JC Roberts Stakes 2012.

Due to jump as Ascot Race 7 at 4:42pm as the last of five stakes features on the program, the $80,000 Listed Schweppes J.C. Roberts Stakes (1800m) field features 16 starters plus four emergencies.

One of the early fancies in the three-year-olds clash will be the Paul Jordon-trained Flag Officer who has drawn just worse than midfield in gate 11.

Excites gelding Flag Officer has been in excellent for this summer having finishing second to Night War in the Perth Magic Millions Classic (1400m) and third to Full Reign in the Listed Challenge Stakes (1500m) before their last-start win in the Listed T.J. Smith Trophy over the Ascot mile on March 3.

Challenge Stakes winner Full Reign is also set to contest the JC Roberts Stakes on Saturday, Peter Giadresco’s Blackfriars gelding to jump from barrier two with Shaun O’Donnell in the saddle.

Following their Challenge Stakes success Full Reign finished three lengths away fourth to Flag Officer in the TJ Smith Trophy, and how the lightly-raced three-year-old handles the step up to 1800-metres will be key to their chances of returning to the winners’ stall on Saturday.

TJ Smith Trophy runner-up Dash For Home and the third placed Lord Hatras will both also be out to turn the tables on Flag Officer in the JC Roberts Stakes this weekend.

The Colin Webster-trained Dash For Home has drawn the inside barrier one and Troy Turner has been booked for the ride, the Dash For Cash gelding looking to return to the form that saw them put four and a half lengths on their rivals first-up in the Westspeed 3YO Handicap (1200m) on February 1.

Lord Hatras, meanwhile, has barrier 18 to overcome, Mike Storer’s Lord Dane three-year-old out to win their first race since the Listed Aquanita Stakes over the 1800-metres at Ascot last December.

Other noteworthy JC Roberts Stakes hopefuls include the Neville Parnham-trained More Than Ready gelding Reign Of Terror, Vaughn Sigley’s last-start winner at the track and distance Rohan and Lou & Dion Luciani’s Valixir improver Lethal Jones.
