2012 Natasha Stakes Final Field & Preview

This Saturday Perth’s Ascot Racecourse will be host to a massive five stakes races, one of which will be the Natasha Stakes 2012 for three-year-old fillies.

Set to run as Ascot Race 6 at 4:05pm (WA time), the $80,000 Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m) is shaping up as a top staying feature for bookmaker.com.au punters to enjoy a bet on with 14 fillies making up the field.

In an early blow for Colin Webster’s last-start Ascot 1000 Guineas winner Pop Culture the in-form Blackfriars filly must overcome barrier 12 if she is to score back-to-back black types.

Ascot Guineas runner-up Elite Belle and third placed Stay Lady Stay will get their chance to turn the tables on Pop Culture this Saturday having both also been accepted into the 2012 Natasha Stakes field.

Grant Williams’ Canny Lad filly Elite Belle, a winner of 1600m at Pinjarra in her only victory from three career starts to date, was just half a length off Pop Culture in the 1000 Guineas.

Having drawn nicely in barrier four with William Pike engaged this Saturday, connections are hoping Elite Belle will be able to improve and score her first stakes success.

The Joe Byrne-trained Stay Lady Stay, who was just a nose off Elite Belle when third in the 1000 Guineas, has also drawn well for the Natasha Stakes in gate three.

Elite Belle’s trainer Grant Williams is seeking his second straight Natasha Stakes win following the success of the now Victorian-trained Dreamaway in the event twelve months ago.

Dreamaway came via wins in the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) and the Listed Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m), with Pop Culture out for the same 1000 Guineas – Natasha Stakes double this year.

Dreamaway also went on to score the Group 3 WA Oaks (2400m) and the then Group 1, now Group 2, WATC Derby (2400m) at her next two starts after the Natasha in a stunning winning sequence, making Saturday’s race a nice form race for bookmaker.com.au punters to keep an eye on.

Other notable chances in the 2012 Natasha Stakes field for Saturday that could be worth a look in the bookmaker.com.au markets once released are the Fred Kersley-trained 1000 Guineas fourth placed Dubai Destination filly Caiguna, Bredon Fitzgerald’s last-start Pinjarra winner Shezapro and Williams’ other runner Dark Miss drawn on the rails.
