WATC Stakes 2012 Field & Preview

This Saturday Perth’s Ascot Racecourse is set to host a top day’s racing headlined by five Listed features, one of which will be the 2012 WATC Stakes.

The supercharged sprint is set to run as Ascot Race 3 at 2:15pm and seven horses make up the $80,000 Listed W.A.T.C. Stakes (1100m) field.

Headlining the quality handicap features with 59kg is Simon Miller’s Power Princess, Paul Harvey to ride the resuming Marwina mare from barrier one following the 15-day careless-riding suspension of the previously booked Peter Knuckey.

Dual stakes winning five-year-old Power Princess was last seen running a good fourth to Waratah’s Secret in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m) last October.

She showed she was ready to get back to race conditions with a close second in a 1000m Belmont Park barrier trial this week giving Miller confidence in her first-up run.

Following Power Princess in the WATC Stakes field and weights is then the Chris Gangemi-trained seven-year-old Werd (58kg) coming off a third in the Listed Cyril Flower Stakes (1200m) on February 25 and Stan Bates’ four-year-old Blackfriars mare All Friared Up (56.5kg) who was an eye-catching third to Latorio in the Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m) back on New Year’s Eve.

Jim Taylor also looks forward to the race return of one of his stable stars in Summer Scorcher winner Latoria, Jason Brown booked for the ride on the brilliant Oratorio mare from barrier two.

Lightly-raced for a five-year-old, Latorio has won seven of her 12 starts to date including all three of her Ascot runs over 1000-metjres during the summer.

Meanwhile Sean Casey’s four-year-old gelding Noname City will shoot for win number three on the trot this Saturday, the progressive galloper having impressed since joining their new trainer after transferring from George Daly’s stables.

Rounding out the WATC Stakes 2012 field are then the Vaughn Sigley-trained Highly Toxic and Justin Warwick’s six-year-old Gum Nut Guru in the far outside barrier seven.

Below punters can find the full 2012 Grant Thorton Australia Limited WATC Stakes field and barriers.
