St Albans Stakes 2012 – Bush Aviator the Front Runner

With no racing in Melbourne this Saturday, Friday night at Moonee Valley is the feature meeting in Victoria this weekend and one of the key races is the 2012 St Albans Stakes.

A small seven-horse final field for the 1200 metre sprint was named today and the Danny O’Brien trained Bush Aviator looks the likely front runner in the two-year-olds’ race.

The colt finished tenth behind a high quality field in the Blue Diamond Stakes last start but won his only other ever start in the Elwick Stakes in Hobart in early February.

Promising horse Rhandara is also due to run in Friday’s support event to the Alister Clark Stakes and she will be ridden by Dwayne Dunn from barrier two.

The filly has not set the world alight in her two starts to date but has signalled plenty of potential with fourth-place finishes in the Listed Emirates Airline Plate and Streets Ice Cream Stakes.

Colt How Swede It Is is coming off a second place effort last start but having mostly run at country tracks will face a step up in class on Friday night.

One horse in the field will be making their debut on Friday night and that is the David Hayes trained gelding who will be ridden by Brad Rawiller from the inside barrier.

Other horses named to run in the 2012 St Albans Stakes include Boban, Tennessee Wills and Underestimation.
