2012 Randwick City Stakes – Quality Field Nominated

The $100,000 Listed 2012 Randwick City Stakes is set to take place as part of Randwick Guineas Day at Royal Randiwck this weekend and a number of quality horses have been included for the 2000 metre stayer’s race.

Chris Waller trained Hawk Island ran in last year’s Melbourne Cup and has ten career victories from 42 starts.

Hawk Island

Hawk Island has been nominated for the 2012 Randwick City Stakes

The seven-year-old gelding has won over $700,000 in prize money and is at home over the Randwick City distance, with seven of his wins having come at 2000 metres.

Another international horse among the headline acts for Saturday’s Ranwick City Stakes is Gai Waterhouse trained gelding Herculian Prince.

The six-year-old is a former Group 1 winner and has nine wins from 27 outings.

Gai Waterhouse also has another New Zealand gelding nominated with Tullamore, who is coming off an eighth-placed finish in Sunday’s Canberra Cup.

Four of the five-year-old’s five career victories have come at distances over 2000 metres.

Former A.J.C Derby and BMW winner Fiumicino is another nominated horse with an impressive record, having collected over $2.8 million in prize money.

Despite a successful career, the eight-year-old has been disappointing so far this year, having finished at the back end of his two starts following a spell.

Other horses nominated for the 2012 Randwick City Stakes include Beijing Boy, Bid Spotter, Leica Larrikin and Maules Creek.
