A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
One of the key support races on the crack Randwick Guineas Day program this Saturday at Royal Randwick will be the 2012 Sweet Embrace Stakes for two-year-old fillies.
While many of the season’s best juveniles have already emerged, a smart collection of promising types have been nominated for the $125,000 Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) which attracted 19 nominations.
The Sweet Embrace Stakes has produced many star fillies over the years with last year’s winning quinella being the Gai Waterhouse-trained Shared Reflections and Guy Walter’s subsequent Flight Stakes winner Streama.
This year Waterhouse will attempt back-to-back Sweet Embrace Stakes victories having nominated her last-start Rosehill winner Kuchinskaya and untapped Strategic filly Valerio who won on debut at Canterbury last month.
The two top-earning fillies among the Sweet Embrace Stakes nominees, meanwhile, are the Clarry Conners-trained Dear Demi ($88,200) and Chris Waller’s Fastnet Rock filly Jade Marauder ($35,300).
Dehere filly Dear Demi debuted with a fourth to Hussousa in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) last October and then resumed in December with a good third in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic.
She backed up with a fourth behind 2012 Golden Slipper-bound Raceway from the Waterhouse stables before her last-start win at Rosehill over 1200-metres on February 25.
Jade Marauder ran third in the Gimcrack in her maiden appearance and has had two runs this time in.
She won first-up at Canterbury over 1200-metres then finished a close second to the Gerald Ryan-trained Cavalary Rose on February 11 over 1200-metres on a Slow (7) track.
Other notable entries include Anthony Cummings’ General Nediym Agueda coming off a close second to Magic Millions Gold Coast Classic winner Driefontein in the Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) at Warwick Famr on February 18, the resuming Gerald Ryan-trained Inglis Nursery third placegetter Flying Snitzel and Peter Snowden’s up-and-comer Meidung who comes off a first-up fifth to Pierro in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.
Many of the Sweet Embrace Stakes entries are hopeful of a start in the richest race for juveniles in the world, the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on April 7.
The shortest-priced of the Sweet Embrace nominations in the Golden Slipper odds at bookmaker.com.au is Waterhouse’s Kunchinskaya who pays $26.
