Empress Rock Emerges As Kewney Stakes 2012 Winner – Race Results

Empress Rock has proved too good for her rivals in today’s 2012 Kewney Stakes, winning the race by more than a length at Flemington.

The three-year-old filly won the race ahead of Assertive Eagle, who finished second, and Bliss Street, who sprinted into third position.

Empress Rock has now earned more than $220,000 in prize money and won two of her five race starts.

The impeccably bred Fastnet Rock filly was paying big odds of $13 to win the 2012 Kewney Stakes at bookmaker.com.au.

Veteran trainer Bart Cummings was at Flemington to see Empress Rock claim her first Group win.

“I wouldn’t change her for anything,” Cummings said.

“This one was very impressive today actually against the fillies.

“You’ve got to be in it to win it.

“(Fastnet Rock offspring) seem to be very good up to a mile.”

Cummings is yet to decide where next to take Empress Rock, and will make a final decision in the coming days.

Possible race starts include the Group 2 Moonee Valley Classic in 13 days’ time and the Group 1 Coolmore Classic over 1,500 metres at Rosehill on March 24, 2012.

Jockey Steven Arnold felt today’s 2012 Kewney Stakes was well deserved.

“You only have to have a look at her, she’s got class written all over her,” Arnold said.

“Today I thought she was going to win a long way out.

“She was always going to be hard to beat.”
