Golden Slipper fancy Snitzerland is the odds-on favourite to take out the 2012 Throughbred Breeders Stakes which will kick off a Super Saturday of racing at Flemington this weekend.
When markets opened today, the Gerald Ryan trained horse was paying $1.90 to take out the Group 3 race for two-year-old fillies.
Snitzerland is coming off a win in Mornington’s Inglis Premier and will run from barrier two when she attempts her longest race yet in the 1400 metre Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes.
Next best in the betting is Armed for Action ($3.90) who has been in good form of late but has drawn the second widest barrier (8) of the nine horses in the field.
The Anthony Freedman trained horse is coming off a third-place effort in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and prior to that secured two consecutive victories.
She will have Craig Williams in the saddle when she attempts to take top honours in the $125,000 race.
Mrs Gray is the only other horse in the field to come in under double digits, currently paying $6.00 with the next best Coins at $11.00.
The David Hayes trained Mrs Gray is looking to record her maiden victory this Saturday and will be ridden by Luke Nolan from barrier six.
She has recorded three placings in her five career starts and ran fifth in her last start in January’s Magic Millions.
Nicskiffoski is a genuine outsider at $41 but the Doug Harrison trained horse is coming off two consecutive victories and will start from the inside on Saturday.
Other horses named to run in the 2012 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes include Real Stolle ($16.00), Extreme Impact ($31.00), She’s Missing ($61.00) and Moral Persuasion ($71.00).
The Throughbred Breeders Stakes is due to start at 12.08pm (AEST) this Saturday March 10 and is the first of a nine-card Flemington race day that includes the Newmarket Handicap and the Australian Cup.
