Grahame Begg trained mare Secret Admirer will continue her journey to the 2012 Doncaster Mile when she turns out this Saturday at Warwick Farm in the Listed 2012 Wiggle Stakes.
The four-year-old is being targeted for the nation’s richest mile event to be held on April 17 and the 1400 metre Wiggle exists as an important stop on the road.
She will run as the top weight in Saturday’s (58kg) mares-only event and is coming off a third-place finish in her first up effort in the Southern Cross Stakes at Rosehill.
Secret Admirer is a two time Group 1 winner, having won the Epsom last year and the Coolmore Flight Stakes in 2010.
Jockey Brenton Advulla has ridden her in all but one of her 11 starts and he will again be in the saddle when she runs from barrier eight on Saturday.
Advulla was impressed with the way she ran in the Southern Cross Stakes.
“I thought she ran super,” he said.
“I thought they went steady in front and she worked to the line and did a good job to get where she was at the finish.”
He is expecting an improved effort on Saturday where she will start as favourite in the eighth race at Warwick Farm.
“It’s 1400 metres second-up, she’ll improve off what she did the other day but she’s still got further improvement left,” he said.
“As long as she is hitting the line strongly we’ll be happy again.”
To score victory in the Wiggle, the four-year-old will have to over come Steps in Time who is coming off three straight wins including victory in the NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic last start.
The John O’Shea trained four-year-old will be ridden by Jim Cassidy out of barrier 12.
