Canberra Guineas 2012 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

A full allotment of 16 horses were today named in the final field for the 2012 Canberra Guineas which will take place this Sunday.

The Canberra Guineas is the fifth race in what is set to be a bumper day of racing in the nation’s capital with the prized Black Opal Stakes and Canberra Cup also set to take place.

Peter Snowden trained filly Detours is one horse in good form coming in to the Listed 1400 metre event, having won last weekend in the Edmen Community Staffing for three-year-olds at Rosehill.

Detours is one of two Snowden trained horses included in the Canberra Guineas field with Aberrant also today named to run.

She has three wins from seven starts but will have to deal with a wide barrier draw (13) when she is ridden by Kerrin McEvoy on Sunday.

Colorado Clare is another horse coming off a victory but the filly has also drawn wide and will come out of barrier 14 with Blake Shinn in the saddle.

New Zealand horse She Goes to Rio has drawn the inside barrier for the $100,000 Listed event and the Anthony Cummings trained filly has an impressive record of three wins from four starts.

Deceiver has won his last three starts but the field in Canberra on Sunday is likely to be too much of a step up for the gelding who also has the added problem of coming from barrier 15.

Other horses named in the 2012 Canberra Guineas field include Saramenha, Road To Summer, Niconoise and Skip Town.
