The punters and bookmakers are having a tough time deciding who will take out the 2012 AV Kewney Stakes with Shopaholic and Soft Sand currently sitting as equal favourites.
They are both paying $3.70 ahead of the three-year-old fillies’ event which is an integral part of Super Saturday racing at Flemington this weekend.
Trained by Danny O’Brien, Shopaholic will be looking to record her fourth straight victory in the $300,000 Group 2 race which will be run over 1400 metres.
She last ran on February 25 when she claimed victory in the Group 2 Armanasco Stakes.
Soft Sand has also been in good form and will have star jockey Damien Oliver in the saddle when she runs from barrier eight on Saturday.
She ran second to Shopaholic in the Armanasco Stakes and has an impressive career record of three wins from five outings.
Gerald Ryan trained Angel of Mercy is the third best in the betting market, currently sitting at $6.70.
She is coming off a third-place effort in the Vanity on February 18 and has one career win from five starts.
Last year’s Gucci Stakes winner Emmalene has drawn barrier seven and with experienced Corey Brown in the saddle provides some value at $9.50.
Emmalene finished ahead of Shopaholic in that Gucci Stakes win but trainer Liam Birchley said earlier this week that Shopaholic remains the horse to beat on Saturday.
She is coming off a fifth-place finish in the Light Fingers Stakes at Warwick Farm on February 18.
Total Attraction ($16) is another candidate in hot form ahead of the AV Kewney Stakes, having won her last three races, but Saturday’s event will be a step up in class for the Peter Moody trained horse.
Other horses set to run in the 2012 AV Kewney Stakes include Empress Rock ($10.00), Nocturnelle ($19.00) and Miss Stellabelle ($21.00).
They are the Races.com.au favourite due to their superior odds and $300 bonus bet offer.
