2012 A.V. Kewney Stakes Final Field – Shopaholic Horse to Beat

The final field and barrier draw have been released for the 2012 A.V. Kewney Stakes which sits as an important race on the bumper Super Saturday card at Flemington this weekend.

Shopaholic looks to be the horse to beat in the $300,000 Group 2 event which will be run over 1400 metres.

Shopaholic is in blistering form ahead of the Kewney Stakes

The New Zealand Danny O’Brien trained filly is in sensational form having won her last three races including the Group 2 Armanasco Stakes last start.

Glen Boss rode her to victory in the Armanasco Stakes and he will again be in the saddle when the three-year-old comes out of barrier four on Saturday.

Trainer of Kewney Stakes rival Emmalene, Liam Birchley said earlier this week that Shopaholic would provide the toughest contest for his filly.

Emmalene produced a decent showing last start in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes where she finished fifth.

She has managed three victories from six visits to the track.

The Daniel Morton trained Bliss Street came home disappointingly in eighth place in the Armanasco Stakes but she has been behind in her preparation, having not trialled before her first start at Ascot in February.

With four career wins from 14 starts, she is likely to be among the chances on Saturday with Morton saying earlier this week that there is plenty of improvement to come.

Soft Sand ran second to Shopaholic in the Armanasco Stakes which followed an impressive win in the Kevin Hayes Stakes in early February.

She will be ridden by champion jockey Damien Oliver from barrier eight on Saturday as she looks to add another win to her so far impressive career record of three victories from five starts.

Total Attraction has also been in good form having won all three of her starts to date but Saturday’s Group 2 event will be a step up in class for the Peter Moody trained horse.

Other horses named in the final field for the 2012 Kewney Stakes include Miss Stellabelle, Gliding, Noctunelle and Torah.
