Nominations Released for 2012 Canberra Guineas

It is a massive day of racing in the nation’s capital this Sunday and one of the key events on the eight-race card is the 2012 Canberra Guineas.

Twenty five horses have been nominated to fill the 16 spots available for the 1400 metre Listed event.

Salade has been nominated to run in the 2012 Canberra Guineas

2011 Golden Slipper runner Salade is the nominated top weight for the $100,000 race, which is the third biggest race of a high quality day which includes the Canberra Cup and the Black Opal Stakes.

The Gwenda Markwell trained colt is coming off a fifth-place effort in the Fireball Quality last weekend and has one career win from four starts.

One nominated filly in good form is Detours, who won the Edmen Community Staffing for three-year-olds last weekend and claimed second in her previous start.

Trained by well known Sydney trainer Peter Snowden, she has an impressive three victories from seven starts.

Another Snowden trained horse included in Canberra Guineas nominations is Aberrant.

The colt is coming off a disappointing 10th in his last start at Canterbury but has two wins and three placings from 10 career races.

David Payne trained Happy Hussy has been dual nominated for the Canberra Guineas and the Surround Stakes at Warwick Farm.

If the filly does run in Canberra this Sunday, she is likely to be in contention having recorded three wins and four placings from nine trips to the track.

Also included in 2012 Canberra Guineas nominations are Road to Summer, Deceiver, Asclepius and Colorado Claire.
