Liverpool City Cup 2012 – Field Released

The final field has been released for the 2012 Liverpool City Cup which will take place at Warwick Farm this Saturday.

The $125,000 Group 3 event will follow the Chipping Norton Stakes as the seventh race on an eight-race card this weekend.

Joseph Pride trained horse Neeson will carry the top weight of 58.5kg and the gelding has drawn a handy barrier four position for the 1300 metre race.

The gelding has eight wins from 24 starts and is coming off a second-place effort in the Mad Mex Southern Cross Stakes at Rosehill on February 25.

2011 Kewney Stakes winner Do Ra Mi will run from barrier seven with Linda Meech in the saddle.

The New Zealand mare’s trainer Peter Moody will be hoping she can turn around her recent form with the four-year-old having not won since she scored victory in the Group 2 Kewney last March.

Mirjulisa Lass

Group 1 winner Mirjulisa Lass has been named in the field for the Liverpool City Cup

Group 1 winner Mirjulisa Lass has been named in the field but if the weather turns sour, trainer Greg Hickman is set to withdraw the four-year-old.

“If the weather stays like this we will run. If it’s a bog she won’t race,” he said.

Gary Portelli trained Somepin Anypin will be running first up, but prior to the gelding’s spell he recorded three straight victories.

The four-year-old Doncaster hopefuly has six wins from 12 starts and will run from the inside on Saturday with well known jockey Jim Cassidy on top.

Prolific trainer Gai Waterhouse has two horses named in the final field with More Strawberries and Fast Clip.

Fast Clip is another horse coming off a spell but the gelding has a decent career record with five wins from 15 starts and has won over $300,000 in prize money.

Those victories have come over a range of distances from 1100 up to 2000 metres.

Other horses included in the 11-horse field for the 2012 Liverpool City Cup are Firebolt, Snow Alert and Triple Elegance.
