Liverpool City Cup 2012 – Nominations Released

Nominations have been released ahead of the 2012 Liverpool City Cup to take place at Warwick Farm this Saturday.

The Liverpool City Cup is run over 1300 metres and is a $125,000 Group 2 event.

Mirjulisa Lass

The weather will determine if Mirjulisa Lass will run on Saturday

Last years Group 2 Kewney Stakes winner Do Ra Mi has been nominated but she may not yet run having also been nominated for the mares-only Wiggle Stakes.

The New Zealand four-year-old has three wins from 14 starts and has collected over $385,000 in prize money.

Joseph Pride trained horse Neeson has been nominated and the five-year-old is coming off a second-place effort in the Mad Mex Southern Cross Stakes at Rosehill on February 25.

He has a successful record of eight wins from 24 starts to his name and Pride says he is pleased with the gelding ahead of Saturday’s race.

Group 1 winner Mirjulisa Lass has been included in the nominations but may be lost to either the Wiggle Stakes or the weather.

Trainer Greg Hickman says the four-year-old will only run if the early week fine weather in Sydney continues.

“If the weather stays like this we will run. If it’s a bog she won’t race,” he said.

Hickman says the weather provides a genuine question mark over the next step in the plan for Mirjulisa Lass, suggesting he will take her wherever there is a dry track.

Happy Zero is the nominated top weight (59.5kg) and the Danzero out of Have Love gelding has an excellent record of eight wins from 17 starts.

All of those victories have occurred overseas with the seven-year-old having mostly run in Hong Kong.

Other horses nominated to run in the 2012 Liverpool City Cup include All Silent, Triple Elegance, No Evidence Needed, Yosei and Firebolt.
