Pierro has shot to the top of the 2012 Golden Slipper order of entry, gaining automatic qualification following his Group 2 Silver Slipper win on Saturday.
The Gai Waterhouse trained son of Lonhro overtook Blue Diamond Stakes champion Samaready on the order of entry for the $3.5 million race.
The Golden Slipper is the richest race for two-year-olds in the world and Samaready ($4.20) is the early favourite at bookmaker.com.au to take out the 1200 metre event which will take place on April 7, 2012.
There are plenty of opportunities for talented two-year-olds to rise up the order of entry this weekend, with one such race Canberra’s Black Opal Stakes.
Third-place Blue Diamond Stakes finisher Armed for Action, currently sits at number five on the order of entry and is nominated for both the Black Opal and the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Flemington.
Other horses on the Golden Slipper order of entry that are nominated to run in the Black Opal include Mama’s Choice (13), Faustus (34), Cavalry Rose (36) and Epaulette (38).
Hussousa, who finished runner up to Pierro in the Silver Slipper moved to number seven on the order of entry and sits just behind the Tony McEvoy trained Jimando.
Another Gai Waterhouse trained horse, No Looking Back, remains in third spot on the order of entry and is currently paying $9.00 as the fourth favourite at bookmaker.com.au.
The filly finished second to Samaready in the Blue Diamond Stakes and also claimed second place in January’s Magic Millions.
