Flemington Super Saturday – 2012 Schweppervescence Trophy Nominations

A bumper day’s racing is set to take place at Flemington this weekend for Super Saturday, one of the day’s key Group race features being the Schweppervescence Trophy 2012.

Lady Lynette

Lady Lynette is the top-rated mare nominated for the 2012 Schweppervescence Trophy

Also known as the Matron Stakes, this year’s edition of the $150,000 Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m) has drawn 16 fillies and mares at nomination stage.

Won 12 months ago by subsequent Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker, the Schweppervescence Trophy 2012 will provide punters with a great opportunity to bet this weekend as well as provide a possible guide for some of the better autumn and spring features.

Headlining the list of Schweppervescence Trophy nominations this year is the David & Scott Brunton-trained Tassie mare Lady Lynette.

The seven-year-old Ladoni mare will jump the 58.5kg topweight in the Schweppervescence on Saturday under the set weight conditions, Lady Lynette looking to add a second stakes win to her title for the season following her last-start win in the Listed Vamos Stakes (1400m) back home at Launceston on February 15.

Lady Lynette is also no stranger to Group racing in Melbourne and is a multiple Group 3 winner at Moonee Valley and a Group 2 winner at Flemington in last year’s Blazer Stakes.

She has also raced competitively at elite level at Flemington with her Myer Classic second from 2009 and her fifth in the same race last Derby Day.

Lady Lynette has also been nominated for the $100,000 Listed Super Saturday Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday where if accepted she would forced to carry 60kg and could potentially face triple Group 1 winner Yosei.

Among Lady Lynette’s possible rivals in the 2012 Schweppervescence Trophy are two last-start winners with John Gunning’s two-length Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) champ Hi Belle and the Mick Price-trained Eternal Sunshine who comes off back-to-back wins at Moonee Valley.

Other notable entries include Peter Moody’s smart Choisir filly Cute Emily last seen running third to Shopaholic in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes at Caulfield on February 25, Group performing Bianconi mare Biancon Rose, Spirit Song to be ridden by Ben Melham and the Chris Waller-trained six-year-old Vintedge racing second-up for the season.
